First Video Clips for US Mobile Site
Reuters has now added video to its mobile site. This is supposed to be a first for US news sites. It’s also the first time I’ve viewed a video on my Blackberry Pearl.
If you go to the mobile site with a normal browser, you will not see the video links (a text link with a small red video icon next to it.) Even if you go to the site with a mobile phone browser, you may still be out of luck. That is because this new service currently only supports a limited number of phones such the Nokia E62, Palm 700w, and Blackberry Pearl (lucky me).
Honestly, though, you’re not missing much if your phone isn’t supported. I was initially excited when I saw the video begin to play; however, the sound quality was so poor that I couldn’t really understand what was being said. For a news site, sound quality would still be important in order to communicate what’s going on. Maybe it’s a setting on my phone? I’m not sure, but so far the idea is cool but it’s still going to take some improvement to get me hooked.
