Keyword Tool For Google AdWords

This is a tool you can use to turn just a few keywords into hundreds. It does this by concatenating adjectives with nouns, generating upper and lower cases, inserting boolean characters such as quotes and brackets, and finally formats the end result so that you just have to paste it into your Google AdWords account.

These are the instructions:

To start, begin with the first tab in the workbook called the Mixer. This uses the concatenate() function in Excel to combine two words. Usually, your first word will be some sort of adjective and then your second word would be a noun. If you have ten adjectives and ten nouns you will then have 100 keywords from this first step.

To move on to the second step you will have to use Excel’s Paste Special feature. This is used by copying a selection, move to where you want to paste the information, right click with your mouse, and select Paste Special. You will then be presented with the different options that Excel provides. Select Values (we do this so that we just get the value of the cell and not a bunch of formulas) and the press OK.

The second step is the Cases tab. This will take the words from the Mixer and give you the upper-case version and the lower-case version. Using the Paste Special, copy each column from the Mixer and place them all in column A of the Cases tab by placing each column’s data below the previous.

The third step is to make different versions of your keywords by using boolean characters that are used in search. We will give each keyword quotes (approximate match) and brackets (exact match.) Do this by using the paste special to copy the upper and lower-case version of your keywords from step two into column A.

The final step is to take the plain, quoted, and bracketed-versions we just created and paste them (using the paste special) into column A of the Final List. Here is information about the remaining columns:

  • Column B will say “YES” if the keyword is bigger than 25 characters. This is the maximum allowed by Google in the title field. This is a concern if you use the {Keyword:Alternate Title} syntax for your title. If the title is too long then “Alternate Title” will be placed in the title instead of your keyword.
  • Column C and D allow you to enter a unique cost per click or a unique URL for that keyword. If you enter nothing, it will simply default to the CPC and URL established for that ad group.
  • Column E is the grand finale. This is the code that you can simply copy and paste into your ad group. Once you have created an ad group, click on the Edit Keywords link that is shown below. This can be found on the main page of your ad group which is the next level down from campaigns.

Once you click on this link you will be presented with a text field. All you have to do now is copy everything from Column E (except the header) and put it into the text field. If you want to know more about the syntax used here you can read this information provided by Google.
