Is Money Everything?
I manage the site for CEO at BYU and someone recently made a comment for their student business which included a quote by Oscar Wilde. He said, “When I was young, I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old, I know it is.”
I also just read an article that talked about Craig Newmark’s (founder of Craigslist) view on money. He took a much different approach that is summarized in the statement “Who needs the money? We don’t really care.” So, that decides it then. I know that this is a profound quote on my part, but I guess that what you care most about, you care most about. That sounds absurdly simple and redundant, but how many of us “care” most about our families but then spend all of our time, attention, and emotion on our work? What do you truly care most about?
He also makes the good point that “We (him and his Chief Executive Jim Buckmaster) both know some people who own more than a billion (dollars) and they’re not any the happier. They also need bodyguards.”
